Thank You, Lambeth

I'm Eduardo Salgado, a bus driver, translator, former immigration caseworker and ESL teacher with deep roots in Lambeth.

I've lived along Acre Lane for years. My family connections here go back to the 1980s. My sister still lives in Brixton. This area isn't somewhere I parachuted into. It's been part of my life for decades.

I've also lived in East Dulwich, spent 15 years in Greenwich, and moved abroad when I had to — like so many in London, chasing work and somewhere affordable to live. I don't own a home. I've moved around. Moving around has become part of my life.

I've worked as a bus driver, so I know our buses from the inside — the impossible rotas, the exhausted drivers, the profits leaving our community while services get squeezed. I've worked as a translator in Spanish and Portuguese, helping Lambeth's Latin American communities — Colombian, Ecuadorian, Portuguese, and others — navigate a system that too often ignores them. I spent a couple of years as an immigration caseworker in Stockwell, so I know this corner of Lambeth well: the streets, the buses, the people, the struggles.

I stood for election because I watched the same issues — housing, regeneration, unemployment, drugs, crime — never get better under a Labour administration that's been in charge for years. I've lived those issues. And I know that many in our Latin American, Portuguese-speaking, Jamaican and African communities feel invisible — not spoken to, not listened to, not represented.

Though I didn't win, I remain committed to this community. The movement continues — and future candidates who share our vision will carry this work forward.
